But are our leaders listening to the many Indians ? What does the housewife in Moradabad want her government to do? Is any political party tuned in to hear the IT guy’s needs in Gurgaon or the migrant’s demand in Jaipur? From every corner of the country, the citizens’ voice must reach Delhi. How? For the first time in the world’s largest democracy, citizen groups and civil society have come together on the Wada Na Todo initiative to direct the government on what it needs to get cracking on, once in Parliament.  Save my India brings to you the ‘All India Peoples’ Manifesto - AIPM’, an initiative of Wada Na Todo Abhiyan which is a national campaign for governance accountability.  For the equal, safe and just India we all want, a Peoples’ Manifesto can be the route to the change we want to see.

In the absence of our political parties having any clear cut manifesto, the people of India need to create a manifesto of what we need from whichever government comes next top power. Choose 3 issues most important to you, to help evolve such a manifesto. We will present this Peoples’ Manifesto to the new parliament.

भारत की समस्याएं जटिल हैं। और दुर्भाग्य से वोट बैंक की राजनीति ने इन समस्याओं में और इजाफा किया है। कई राजनेता अपने वोट बैंक को मजबूत करने के लिए समाज के अलग अलग तबकों को एका के सूत्र में पिरोने के बजाय इसको बांट रहे हैं। यदि लोगों में एकता हो तो राजनेता इनमें मतभेद की राजनीति द्वारा वोट नहीं ले सकते हैं। यदि लोगों में इस तरह की चेतना आ जाए तो वोट लेने के लिए इन नेताओं के पास अच्छा प्रदर्शन ही एक मात्र रास्ता बचेगा।

देश का एक नागरिक होने के नाते हम लोगों का क‌र्त्तव्य बनता है कि ऐसे लोगों से देश की रक्षा करें जो अपने स्वार्थपूर्ति के लिए मुद्दों में धूर्तता के साथ हेरफेर करते हैं और वोट बैंक की राजनीति की अगुवाई करते है। ऐसे लोग अपने निहित स्वार्थ के चलते अनुचित फैसलों का समर्थन करते हैं जबकि उचित निर्णयों का विरोध करते हैं। ऐसे नेताओं की सफाई के लिए हमें अभियान चलाना चाहिए। हमें व्यापक सोच वाले राजनीतिज्ञों और नेताओं को आगे आकर पद संभालने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना चाहिए। जिससे वे समाज को शिक्षित बना सकें और अध्यात्मिक, नैतिक और सामाजिक रूप से इसका उत्थान कर सकें।

आज हमें ऐसे नेताओं की जरूरत है जो हमेशा सच्चाई का साथ देने वाला हो, सबको बराबर की नजर से देखने वाला हो, सबसे मृदुल व्यवहार करने वाला हो, जिसके बारे में कुछ भी छिपा न हो और दूरगामी सोच वाला हो। अर्थात आज हमारे समाज को सत्यदर्शी, समदर्शी, प्रियदर्शी, पारदर्शी और दूरदर्शी नेतृत्व की जरूरत है।

हमें ऐसे नेताओं का चुनाव करना चाहिए जिनका जाति, संप्रदाय, धर्म और क्षेत्र आधारित नीतियों से कोई लेना देना न हो, जो सभी बच्चों को बहु-संस्कृति और बहु-आयामी शिक्षा उपलब्ध कराने की व्यवस्था सुनिश्चित करें।

आज हमें ऐसे नेतृत्व की जरूरत है जिनके पास एक मिशन और एक विजन के साथ साथ त्याग की भावना, सहानुभूति और प्रतिबद्धता हो। हमें ऐसे नेताओं का चयन करना चाहिए जिनके पास दीर्घकालीन विजन और संक्षिप्त समय की योजनाओं द्वारा निष्पादित करने की क्षमता हो। इन नेताओं को अपने से ज्यादा देश के प्रति निष्ठा और स्थान देना चाहिए।

दुर्भाग्य से हमारे अधिकांश नेताओं में त्याग और समाहित करने की भावना की कमी है। संबंधित पार्टी का बिना ख्याल किए अवाम राजनेताओं को ‘झूठा और बेईमान‘ समझने लगा है। आज लोग नेताओं से ऊब चुके हैं। लोगों में उदासीनता घर कर चुकी है। वे पूरी राजनीति को ही सिरे से खारिज कर रहे हैं और मतदान करने जैसे अपने मूल क‌र्त्तव्यों से विमुख हो रहे हैं।

व्यवस्था में बदलाव लाने के लिए हमारा वोट महत्वपूर्ण हथियार है। अन्याय के प्रति आवाज बुलंद करने के लिए यह हमें अवसर उपलब्ध कराता है। लेकिन हममें से बहुत लोगों ने ‘चलता है‘ अवधारणा पाल रखी है क्योंकि हम अपने वोट की ताकत को देखने में असमर्थ हैं। यह प्रवृत्ति देश के लिए खतरनाक है। मतदान न करके हम यथास्थिति को बढ़ावा दे रहे हैं।

हममें से हर एक को न केवल वोट करना चाहिए बल्कि हमारे आसपास के लोगों को भी इसके लिए प्रोत्साहित करना चाहिए। जब अच्छे, बुद्धिजीवी और सुशिक्षित लोग वोट नहीं करते हैं तो वे एक तरह से राजनेताओं के हाथ की कठपुतली होते हैं जो सत्ता पाने के लिए धन और वोट बैंक की राजनीति का प्रयोग करते हैं। लोगों को आशा नहीं छोड़नी चाहिए। देश में अच्छे राजनीतिज्ञ भी मौजूद हैं और उनको भी देश के लोगों के लिए कुछ अच्छा कर दिखाने को एक मौका दिया जाना चाहिए।

अभी तक हम पूंजीवाद, साम्यवाद और समाजवाद की विसंगतियों को देख चुके हैं। अब समय आ गया है मानववाद और अध्यात्मवाद का। मानववाद और अध्यात्मवाद से रहित राजनीति के दूषित हो जाने का खतरा रहता है। कई लोग मानते है कि अध्यात्मवाद इस दुनिया (राजनीति) के लिए नहीं है। इससे समाज में बदलाव की बयार नहीं बहाई जा सकती है। लेकिन यह सोचना गलत है। देश के राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी भी एक अध्यात्मिक व्यक्ति थे। रोज सत्संग करने वाले इस व्यक्ति ने देश की आजादी में अहम किरदार निभाया।

इसलिए आज हमें ऐसे नेताओं की जरूरत है जिनमें त्याग की भावना हो और जो राजनीति में प्रवेश के लिए अध्यात्मिक दृष्टिकोण रखते हों।

Poll Manifesto: BJP promises Ram,

rice and tax relief

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday reiterated that it was “committed” to building a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Reading out extracts from the manifesto for the Lok Sabha election, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said the party was “committed to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya”.

On the issue of Sethusamudram, a shipping channel to link India’s eastern and western coasts that the BJP is opposed to on grounds that it would destroy a chain of limestone shoals in the Palk straits that it dates back to the Ramayana, Prasad said the party would not “allow anyone to touch it”.

The BJP has also said it would stop cow slaughter as it was an issue associated with “faith”.

BJP will exempt all armed forces and paramilitary personnel from income tax if voted to power, the party said while releasing its manifesto Friday for the Lok Sabha elections. In another populist promise, it said it would exempt individuals with an income of up to Rs.300,000 per year from income tax.

The party said it would enact a “strong law” like POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) to counter terrorism and also strengthen coastal security,

“We will deal with terrorists, whether inside or outside the country, stringently. A strong law like POTA will be enacted and coastal security will be strengthened,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

“The fencing of the Indo-Bangladesh border which was on the backburner will be taken up earnestly. The Chhattisgarh model of fighting Naxalism will be replicated across the country,” he added.The Bharatiya Janata Party also promised in its manifesto to waive agricultural loans and provide 35 kg of rice or wheat at Rs.2 per kg for all families below the poverty line (BPL). Highlights of its “putting poor first” promises:

1. All BPL families to get 35 kg of rice or wheat every month at Rs 2 per kg. This will be available against Food Coupons redeemable both at PDS and private outlets.

2. Ensure farm loans at a maximum interest rate of 4 percent.

3. Waive agricultural loans.

4. Introduce a Farm Income Insurance Scheme through which both price and produce will be insured.

5. Irrigate 35 million hectares of additional farmland within five years.

Earlier Congress chief Sonia Gandhi  projected Manmohan Singh as the next prime minister of the country saying that there could be many candidates for the post but no one matched up to him.

“There can be many candidates for the post of prime minister but nobody stands in front of Manmohan Singh. He has both experience and competence,” the United Progressive Alliance chairperson said while releasing the party’s manifesto here.

She said that the people would vote for the Congress keeping in mind the achievements of the UPA government in the last five years.

The Congress party released its manifesto on Tuesday, offering many sops to the electorate, including 25 kg of rice at Rs3 a kg to the poor.

While releasing the manifesto, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said security, respect and prosperity of all citizens will be the main thrust of the party.

The UPA Chairperson was accompanied by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukhrejee.

Sonia said all families below poverty line will get 25 kg rice/wheat per month at Rs 3. Empowerment of weaker section of society, SC/OBC and minority will get priroty. NREGA wage will be increased to Rs 100 per day.
