Police in Dehradun are under fire after shooting and killing a management student near the city on Friday night. Is it possible that CID inquiry will reveal the truth as the officers in the CID are from the same Police who is responsible for this murder. I think the BJP leaders has not learned a single lesson from the recent defeat.

There are 26 injury marks in his body other than the bullet marks. They can’t be anything but marks of torture and beating him. He had been beaten before the entire drama of encounter,” Ravinder Singh, father of 22-year-old Ranbir, said.

“We are not satisfied. We want a CBI investigation into it (the killing). If the government orders it, then it is okay. Otherwise, we will press for it,” he said.

A distraught Singh said he wanted “exemplary” punishment to those involved to prevent people from even thinking about such an act given the consequences. “I will fight for it,” he said.

The body of Ranbir Singh, gunned down by Uttarakhand police in an alleged fake encounter, bore 12 marks of bullets fired from close range and 27 other injuries showing that he may have been tortured, according to an autopsy report.

The family of Ranbir Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad city in Uttar Pradesh, alleges the police killed him in a fake encounter. Singh was visiting Dehradun to join a new job and was travelling with his two friends on a motorcycle when the police stopped him in a place called Dalanwala in the town.

Police allege the three men argued with a constable who asked them to stop and then fled after snatching his service revolver.

Police shot dead Singh at another checkpoint near a forest but his two friends escaped. Police claim they opened fired after being shot at. Anil Sihna, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Dehradun, claimed a pistol and knife was found in Singh’s bag.

Singh’s family rejected the police’s allegations and alleged he had been killed in cold blood. Singh’s father Ravinder alleged his son had no criminal record and the police killed him to win medals. Ravinder claimed the police had threatened him and wanted him not to complain.

Sunil Verma, who claims he saw the shooting, alleged police dragged and hit with Singh a rife before killing him. Police say they are searching for the two men who were with Singh.

Foreign Education

Attacks on Indian students in Australia are quite disturbing. One student is struggling for life. Another three have been attacked and injured
Foreign universities try to attract Indian students through their agents who present attractive brochure and CDs about the “high standard of their education and wonderful campus life”. They charge hefty tuition fees which the Indian students mostly meet through educational loans and eating into the savings of parents (depriving them of their savings for their retired life). With all the difficulty once the students land in a foreign country, they may have to find accommodation at a huge rent and share the accommodation with others. The campus living may be difficult for most students. Then to meet their living expenses, the students work in restaurants, departmental stores, petrol bunks and such other places and struggle hard. Many a time poor parents have to keep sending money. The coaching in most universities appears substandard and there may not be coaching at all! The students may have to depend on website lecture notes and information. There are instances of students returning half-way through.

Do we need foreign education?

Don’t we have educational institutions in the country with required standard?

In my considered opinion, India has educational institutions of very high standard. We can also improve further and accommodate all our students who want higher education. Why should we drain our money to other countries?

Those aspiring to go abroad for education may realize that they can surely have good degrees in India itself by spending only a fraction of what they would be spending in a foreign university.

Our HRD ministry may look into the issue of improving the higher educational facilities in the country and provide opportunities for all. India should try to attract outside students and try to earn foreign exchange. Private educationalists may also try to upgrade and expand facilities for higher education and train our youths and prepare them to take up jobs internationally.

In countries like the US, Australia and New Zealand there are a large number of Indian students. It should be responsibility of the countries concerned to ensure safety of the students. The incidences like the one in Australia should not be brushed off as a stray case. The Indian government needs to intervene effectively.

The judicial fate of Varun Gandhi will be determined by the Allahabad High Court Tuesday afternoon when the state advisory board takes a final call on the National Security Act (NSA) that was slapped on him by the Uttar Pradesh government earlier this month.

The meeting of the board is slated to be absolutely confidential. Sources, however, confirmed that Gandhi would appear before the board at 3.30 pm.

The three-member board is headed by Justice Pradeep Kant, senior judge of the Lucknow bench of the high court, and includes two retired high court judges.

As the ultimate statutory authority on the NSA, the advisory board has the right to approve or revoke the government order invoking the act against Gandhi, the BJP candidate from the Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

The verdict of the advisory board is final and if it chooses to revoke the NSA, Gandhi would be set free with immediate effect.

The law does not permit any NSA detenu to be accompanied by a lawyer before the advisory board. However, one person is free to join him.

Gandhi was charged for making highly inflammatory anti-Muslim utterances during his poll campaign in Pilibhit.

It is still not very clear to my mind why Ms. mayawati, the C.M. of Uttar Pradesh has convened the Press Conference twice in last 20 days to explain her stand about Varun Gandhi to media. I don’t think that he is the most notorious criminal in Uttar Pradesh. Many eminent lawyers of the Supreme Court had also condemned the NSA against him.

Young Varun Gandhi today walked out of Etah jail in Uttar Pradesh after the Supreme Court granted him two-week parole after 20-day detention to allow him to contest the Lok Sabha polls with the rider - no more hate speeches. Attired in a maroon kurta pyjama, the BJP’s Pilibhit candidate walked out of the jail around 6.30 pm to a tumultuous welcome from BJP supporters.

The apex court earlier in the day ordered Varun Gandhi’s “forthwith release” for two weeks to enable him to file his nomination for Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency and campaign for the polls.

Varun Gandhi’s speeches in Dalchand locality of Pilibhit town, about 300 km from Lucknow, March 7 and at Barkhera village March 8, targeting the minority community, had created a controversy. He was arrested March 28.

He was charged with provisions under the stringent NSA the next day as his arrest came amid violence by his supporters who also clashed with police.

Mayawati’s Government had opposed Varun Gandhi’s parole tooth and nail, but the Supreme Court decided to grant him parole, so we have to abide by it.”

There should always be some questions in the mind of a voter. Two candidates are MLA from Uttar Pradesh.
“Despite New Delhi’s clear commitment to combating violent extremism, the Indian government’s counterterrorism efforts remains hampered by its outdated and overburdened law enforcement and legal systems,” the US State Department Country Terrorism Report for 2008 observed, after chronicling numerous terrorist attacks in India during the year culminating in the Mumbai carnage. None of the perpetrators of the attacks has yet been prosecuted, it noted.

The report said India was the focus of numerous attacks “from both externally-based terrorist organizations and internally-based separatist or terrorist entities,” while absolving Pakistan, which New Delhi has accused of virtually being complicit in the acts of terrorism against India.

Instead, the report says the Indian government assessed that “South Asian Islamic extremist groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Harakat-ul-Jihad-i-Islami (Bangladesh) as well as indigenous groups” were behind these events. India, it said, believed these attacks were aimed at creating a breakdown in India-Pakistan relations, fostering Hindu-Muslim violence within India, and harming India’s commercial centers to impede India’s economic resurgence.

The report also notes that India-Pakistan relations were improving despite an increased number of infiltrations across the Line of Control, until they were significantly set back by the Mumbai attack in November. Pakistani officials pledged to prosecute all individuals in Pakistan found to be involved in the Mumbai attacks and offered to share intelligence regarding the attacks with the Government of India, it said, while censoriously observing that the composite dialogue between the two sides was frozen by the Indian government in December, ”contributing to heightened tension between the two governments.”

This year’s terrorism report is heavily focused on Pakistan, far more than Iraq or Afghanistan, and paints a grim picture of a country in the throes of endemic extremist violence. The report notes that the coordination, sophistication, and frequency of suicide bombings in Pakistan continued to grow in 2008.

Anguished parents and screaming students Thursday took on the authorities of one of Delhi’s most reputed institutions, Modern School Vasant Vihar, blaming them for the death of 17-year-old girl Aakriti Bhatia who succumbed to an asthma attack during school hours three days ago.

The anger of family and friends of Akkriti Bhatia (17) at Modern School, Vasant Vihar, on Thursday forced the school authorities to close the institution on Friday. The school was also issued a show-cause notice by the Delhi government.

Akkriti’s post-mortem report, which came on Friday, said she died a natural death caused by suffocation.

Three inquiries — by the Delhi government, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the school — have been ordered into Akkriti’s death. She dies during school hours on Monday after she suffered an asthma attack.

Shouting slogans and holding placards, many of the protestors, including students from other well known Delhi schools, gathered outside Modern School in south Delhi, demanding the resignation of principal Goldy Malhotra for alleged negligence.

“I was horrified to know what had happened in school. A girl who was gasping for breath was not offered a vehicle by the school to take her to hospital,” said a former member of the school’s Parent Teacher Association.

“There are hundreds of cars parked in the school and the principal also possesses a car. Why were they waiting for ambulance? Goldy Malhotra is the most unethical principal I have ever seen and she should resign.”

Police complaint lodged

Aakriti’s own parents, who have registered a police complaint against the school authorities, were among the protestors and came face to face with the principal.

A heated exchange of words followed between the protestors and the school authorities.

Aakriti, a Class 12 student, had suffered an asthma attack in school Monday and died on the way to hospital. The principal however has refused to accept that she died due to the school’s alleged negligence.

“We demand an apology from the school principal and want her to resign. We will continue our protest till the principal tenders her resignation,” a friend of Aakriti’s said.

Principal must quit

Said a parent: “The principal should resign. Just imagine how would it feel if your or my family member passes away like this?”

Aakriti had reportedly complained of breathlessness to her teacher and had later called up and informed her mother as well. She was shifted to the school’s sports room and put on oxygen. As her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to Holy Angels hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

“Any staff member could have offered his or her car to take Aakriti to hospital but they kept waiting for Aakriti’s car. The hospital is only one km away from the school and they waited around 45 minutes, doing nothing. As a result we lost her. The principal should accept her fault and apologise,” said an angry parent.

Today when I was passing through Sabka Bazar Chauraha, I have seen a Traffic jeep alarming the owners of wrongly parked vehicles for challans . It is a welcome move by the police administration. But I think both MDA and Avas Vikas Parishad is responsible for the congestion at that point. After the death of so many citizens they now should take some concrete steps for the safety of passengers.

19/04/2009

It is shocking to hear that A young brilliant girl Tanu died in an accident with a Truck at Sabka Bazar Crossing near R.N. Inter College, Moradabad. In last one year there have been many accidents at that point just due to heavy rush at that point. There is no traffic arrangements by the administration at that crossing. I appeal to District Administration to please make appropriate arrangements on that point. I also make a appeal to people of Moradabad to take some interest in traffic problems of the city

This is foolish idea to invite somebody to have a debate on your terms.I don’t agree that Manmohan should have a T.V. debate on crucial national issues. Although one should take part on debate but on the other hand we should not make the national isues as entertainment for the illiterate and semi literate population. We believe in diologues and clap when it gives a smile on the face. If Dara singh challange Amitabh Bachchan to have a fight, every one knows that Dara Singh is going to win. But it does not prove that Dara Singh is the Best. Same way, If Lalkrishna Adwani defeats Mr. Manmohan Singh by his impressive diologues, what is it going to prove? Anyway, it is not giong to prove that Mr Adwani ji can be a good P.M. and Mr. Manmohan is a fool! Is this what Mr. Adwani wants to demonstrate in the eyes of World that we have an incompetent P.M.? This is India Shining? Mr. Adwani, why don’y you take a lesson from America where Mr. Bush was given warm farewell. Even Mr. Obama did not criticise him for his bad governance, wrong policies and killing innocent people at the country’s cost. Mrs. Clinton was defeated by Mr. Obame but after his taking oath he declared that Mrs Clinton will be inducted in the Ministry. If you have the capability of becomming P.M. why don’t you show good gestures and as Mahatma gandhi said you should not hate your enemies. What is the fault of Mr. Manmohan Singh? He is silently on job, no matter who is dictating him. He just thinks of the national interest. If it comes from Sonia ji’s mouth how does it damage the National cause? At least in Congress their is somebody to guide and to watch what is going on. Do you want that if you become P.M. nobody should come forward and guide you, as you don’t remember when you were home minister and why in your presence the dreaded terrorists were safely aired to Kandhar? Was it not a shameful act? Soldiers are killed in the war and what is the duty of a civilians? They should seek sympathy for their relatives in the plane? Can’t they sacrifice for their NATION? Your image is of IRON MAN, was this act to justify your image? What would have happened If those terrorist were hanged publicly? I was not a fan of Manmohan singh, but you have made me to appreciate him. Mr. Adwani, you don’t know that you are creating sympathy for him. After completing five years as P.M. what do you think he should have been sacked? I think, Sonia ji has again shown greatness by declaring Manmohan the next P.M. First time she has shown her greatness by refusing Prime Ministership when Laloo, Mamta and Ram Vilas Paswan were fighting for Railway Ministry. We boast for our sacrificing culture but what do you thing actually we follow those traditions or we jusy show off-…Kathni aur karni mein anter nahi hona chahiye… Humare pas dikhane ke daant alag hain aur khane ke alag… Just think of it and make yourself a role model, so what if you don’t get what you dream!

The key message is,

1) If you want to change the system, it can’t come talking and criticizing from the drawing rooms, it can only be brought by going to grass root level, the common man.
2) If you want to save the country from the clutches of the corrupt and principle less politicians; intellectuals and honest people will have to join politics
3) We can’t see our country being divided into so many fractured groups on basis of caste, religion, region, language etc.. Our country can survive if we first consider ourselves as Indians and only Indians
4) Someone has to make a begining , to take on these nauseating politicians., why not me, you and us?
